Developers' Diaries - Stalker Online News and frequently asked questions

Friends, it's time for the next update on the EKB server - we sincerely apologize that we did not share the details of Stalker Online development for a while, and we want to explain the reasons behind that: first, we spent some time on vacation (as we also need a little rest), and secondly after that we were busy with an update for the game, patch notes for that updated will be published as a separate news.

In the meantime, we'd like to talk about some of the things that you've been asking us about in comments and in community messages.

Sounds in the game

We see that Stalkers are very interested in the sound environment of the game, on these questions we can reply that soon we’ll have some interesting news for you: stay tuned for details on improving this part of the game!

Inquiries related to weapons in the game

We’re seeing our players sending us messages that their weapons lose durability and they cannot or do not know how to restore it. We would like to explain again how the system works now, and why it works that way.

The bottom line is that weapons durability will now become an irreplaceable resource, this is the most basic position of this system. That, in turn, leads to the fact that the mechanism of the "number of repairs" is completely removed.

Taking care of the weapons will henceforth be reoriented to the practices of its timely and necessary maintenance. The result of non-compliance with this requirement will be an increase in wear and tear of these weapons, various malfunctions, problems with them, and so on. We already wrote about this in our previous developers blog entry.

As you can already see, the state of the weapon determines the possibility of a malfunction in its functioning, however, now this does not result in 100% jamming results after the first shot. However, newly introduced concepts of contamination, lead and copper plating also have an impact on this.

We again want to emphasize that the current state of the system will be further developed and its current version is not the final one.

Talking about NPC traders

We also see comments and messages regarding trade with the NPC. We just want to make a notice beforehand: the current system of trade with the NPC will remain and will be further developed, but its main principles are laid and already exist in the game. A relevant observation in this case would be that we want to create an alive world inside the MMO with an atmosphere where the player, the NPC and the monster live by the same rules - this is a non-trivial task and we are still working on it, but we consider this aspect important and necessary for our game to have.

Regarding the issue with availability of goods in stores, we would like to clarify that the deficit of goods for which there is a demand, given their exhaustibility is absolutely normal.

In the future, we will finalize stores and their capabilities, and goods in these stores will appear by an improved algorithm. More detail about this algorithm will be shared as it is implemented. In addition, we will engage in other mechanics, logically related to the acquisition and delivery of goods, for example, the ability to receive goods through the same NPC without paying for those.

We have a huge number of ideas on the topic of related game mechanics, which would allow players to sell their goods through an NPC or open their own stores, provide services and so on. However, these and other mechanics require the implementation of other related solutions that are not yet implemented in the game.

And in the immediate prospects we have excellent news: soon with a NIP it will be possible to bargain, spending its reputation on it. It is possible that in some cases it will give an opportunity to receive the goods free of charge. Of course, the game will gradually introduce ways to get this reputation and the opportunity to work with it.

In conclusion we would like to reiterate that we see your concerns about systems and the mechanics of the game, and we will continue to refine them in accordance with the available development plan. We ask you to treat this with understanding and respect, since the implemented systems are rather large and involve both already existing and planned aspects of the game.
